« Three years on: how the Abraham Accords are changing the Middle East »
The Abraham Accords agreed in 2020 have had a significant impact on the Middle East region and Arab-Israeli relations. Cooperations has increased on political and economic level, but also through people-to-people contact.
In the context of our regular debates, we are very pleased and honoured to welcome H.E. Mr Mohamed Ismail Al Sahlawi, UAE Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union, and H.E. Mr Haim Regev, Head of the Mission of Israel to the European Union and NATO, for an exchange of views on the progress, challenges and prospects for Arab-Israeli relations and the wider Middle East.

H.E. MR MOHAMED ISMAIL AL SAHLAWI
• Bachelor’s degree in International Relations (minored in Governmental Studies), American University of Sharjah
• Master’s degree in Environment and Energy Policy and Transnational Security, Center for Global Affairs, New York University
• Completed the Oxford Artificial Intelligence Program from the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford
• Civil servant throughout his career: starting at the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs and later joining the office of the Vice President of UAE as a senior political analyst
• Numerous positions and tasks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Abu Dhabi (Deputy Director of European Affairs Department, Deputy Director of Policy Planning Department, member of the Syrian crisis committee, and representing the UAE in several working groups within the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh)
• UAE Deputy Head of Mission in Paris and UAE Deputy Permanent Delegate to UNESCO
• Alternate representative to the Executive Board at UNESCO
• Since November 2021: UAE ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and the European Union
H.E. MR HAIM REGEV
• Born in Israel
• Holds a B.A. in Political Science and Middle Eastern Studies and an MBA with honors, both from Tel-Aviv University
• 1994: joined Israel's Foreign Service
• 1996-1998: Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Israel in Oman
• 1998-2001: Deputy Consul General to Florida in Miami
• 2001-2004: served in the Department for Middle East Economic Affairs in Jerusalem
• 2004-2008: Counselor for Congressional Affairs at the Embassy of Israel in Washington D.C.
• 2013-2016: Director of the Coordination Department in the office of the Director General in Jerusalem
• 2016-2021: Head of the Middle East and Peace Process Division in Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs
• 2020-2021: Chief of Staff to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabi Ashkenazi
• Since August 2021: Head of the Mission of Israel to the EU and NATO
